The Leviathan rollercoaster at Canada's Wonderland experienced a valleying incident during operations on Saturday, leaving a small number of riders stranded in cold, wet, and windy conditions at the Vaughan theme park.
Incident Details
A park visitor who captured the event on video and shared it on social media platform X reported that the ride stalled after the giant camelback hill, failing to complete the turnaround. The user, identified as Jake, expressed concern for the riders stuck in the adverse weather. Another video posted by user @coastersnbrews showed the Leviathan car moving forward and backward between two hills, resembling a pirate ship ride, with wind gusts audible in the background.
Park Response
Canada's Wonderland issued a statement explaining that due to cold and gusty weather on May 23, the ride did not complete its typical cycle. The six guests on board were unloaded safely and accommodated by park staff. The park emphasized that guest and employee safety remains a top priority.
According to both social media users, the Behemoth ride also valleyed during the same rainstorm, though no riders were on board at the time. The incidents occurred as the park delayed the opening of its Splash Works water park due to the poor weekend weather, now scheduled to open on May 30.
Weather Conditions
Environment Canada had issued a special weather statement for the Greater Toronto area on Saturday, forecasting between 30 and 50 millimeters of rain. The combination of cold temperatures and strong winds contributed to the ride stoppages.
Canada's Wonderland continues to operate other attractions, with safety protocols in place to handle such weather-related incidents.
