Road Reconstruction Planned for Three More Windsor Neighbourhoods
Road Work Planned in Three More Windsor Neighbourhoods

Road reconstruction work is set to begin in three more Windsor neighbourhoods this construction season, as part of the city's largest-ever single-year investment in roads. The projects, totaling $12 million, will target streets in the Fontainebleau, Sandwich South, and Remington Park areas, which fall within Wards 8, 9, and 10.

Collaborative Effort

Ward 8 Coun. Gary Kaschak highlighted the cooperation between the city, residents, and politicians. "It's been a terrific collaboration," he said. "We can nip some of these bad roads in the bud with a mill and pave and extend their life." In May, Kaschak and three colleagues outlined the $12 million in projects, which are part of Windsor's record $163.8 million road investment. Of that total, $36.6 million is dedicated to road rehabilitation, reconstruction, and replacement, with the remainder allocated to larger infrastructure projects.

Ward 10 Focus

Ward 10 Coun. Jim Morrison emphasized the need for infrastructure upgrades amid growth. "We've ensured continued fiscal responsibility while spending more than ever on infrastructure across the city," he said. "We're experiencing incredible growth and development, which comes with the need for new infrastructure and to keep up with wear and tear on busy roads. My ward is centrally located and has some of the city's older infrastructure."

Ward 9 as 'Engine of Windsor's Future'

Ward 9 Coun. Kieran McKenzie described his ward as "the engine of Windsor's future," noting the presence of NextStar Energy Inc. and the upcoming Fanscy Family Hospital. "As our community grows, my priority is ensuring this development is supported by sustainable infrastructure that protects the quality of life for families in Windsor's southeast."

Mayor's Statement

Mayor Drew Dilkens called the city-wide road rehabilitation part of council's plan to invest "responsibly." He said projects in Wards 8, 9, and 10 "will rehabilitate, reconstruct, or replace key roads that provide vital links between where residents live, work, and play."
