This could have been avoided if someone had just told him that Rocco was a Spurs fan. On Monday night's episode of 'The Daily Show,' host Jon Stewart called an icon in children's entertainment 'a bitch' after said icon revealed that he was not wholeheartedly supporting the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.
'You fucking kidding me, Elmo?!' Stewart said, aiming his wrath at the 'Sesame Street' puppet.
'Today's 'Sesame Street' is brought to you by the letter 'B' for 'You're a bitch,'' Stewart added.
Last week, Elmo published a post on X before Game 1 of the NBA Finals that received a fair amount of backlash.
'Elmo hopes both teams have fun!' the monster wrote with his fuzzy little hands.
Considering that 'Sesame Street' very much resembles — and is shot in — New York, many Knicks fans were disappointed with his nonpartisan post. One fan wrote, 'You live in NYC you fucking traitor,' while another said, 'This isn't the time for sportsmanship Elmo. These streets ain't sesame.' The official NYC DOT account even chimed in with a warning: 'Don't make us take this down, bro.' And The Knicks Wall simply demanded: 'PICK A SIDE COWARD.'
Elmo did try to do a little damage control after the pushback by publishing a response on X the next day.
'KNICKS that last message! Elmo didn't mean to SPUR you on!' he wrote.
Yet, Elmo's attempt at being cute wasn't totally cutting it. One fan responded, 'Elmo.. you don't understand. Knicks fans will literally sacrifice you to some bodega cat. Chill out.'
So, Stewart invited Elmo on his show Monday to clear his good name — and ended up pushing the little muppet so hard that Elmo ended up revealing a pretty dark secret about himself. To see what that was, check out the video below.
