A Guelph man is facing charges after pulling a knife on a pharmacist who refused to refill his prescription. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at a pharmacy near the intersection of Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue.

Details of the Incident

According to Guelph Police Service, officers responded to a call at approximately 2:30 p.m. The suspect, a 34-year-old man, became agitated when the pharmacist explained that his prescription could not be refilled due to medical guidelines. He then produced a knife and threatened the pharmacist before fleeing the store.

Police located the man a short distance away and arrested him without further incident. The knife was recovered at the scene. No injuries were reported.

Charges Filed

The man has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Uttering threats

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
