Tim Hortons Launches Battle of the Donuts Contest for National Donut Day

In celebration of National Donut Day, Tim Hortons is inviting Canadians to showcase their creativity with the return of the Battle of the Donuts contest. The grand prize includes $10,000 and a trip for two to the Tims Innovation Test Kitchen in Toronto, offering a unique opportunity to see a donut idea come to life.

Over the past year, the Apple Fritter has reigned as the top-selling donut at Tim Hortons, followed by the Boston Cream and Honey Cruller. These classics continue to delight customers, but the chain is eager to explore new flavors and concepts through this contest.

How to Enter

From now until June 18, donut enthusiasts can submit their ideas at timshop.ca/battleofthedonuts. A panel of Tim Hortons judges will evaluate entries based on three criteria: creativity, popularity, and feasibility. After several rounds, three finalists will be selected, and Canadians will have the chance to vote for their favorite during a public voting phase starting this fall.

“At Tim Hortons, we’ve been passionate about our donuts since 1964, so National Donut Day is always a big deal for us,” said Chef Tallis Voakes, Director of Culinary Innovation. “Canadians are incredibly creative and passionate about our baked goods – we can’t wait to see the delicious donuts they come up with this year.”

Canada’s Favorite Donuts

In 2022, Tim Hortons revamped its Apple Fritter, adding over 40% more apples. By the following year, it became the most popular donut, a status it still holds. The Boston Cream and Honey Cruller round out the top three. While classics remain beloved, innovations like Ryan Reynolds’ Signature Maple Glazed Donut also captured Canadians’ hearts, becoming the top-selling donut during its launch.

Tim Hortons invites all Canadians to participate in the Battle of the Donuts and help shape the future of their donut menu.
