Bombardier Inc. has announced a significant investment of approximately S$100 million (US$78 million) to expand its maintenance and service hub in Singapore. This move is aimed at accommodating the anticipated increase in next-generation business jets and will create 200 skilled jobs.
Expansion Details
The Canadian manufacturer of private planes, including the Global and Challenger series, will build a new 23,200 square metre facility at Singapore's Seletar Airport. This expansion will nearly double Bombardier's existing footprint and workforce in the region. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year.
Paul Sislian, Bombardier's executive vice president for aircraft sales and aftermarket services, stated in an interview with Bloomberg Television that the company is seeing continued growth and increased utilization, making this expansion the right solution.
Record Backlog and Regional Demand
The jet maker reported a record backlog of orders in April, surpassing US$20 billion, driven by strong demand from wealthy individuals and shared-ownership and subscription firms. Sislian noted that up to 10 per cent of the order book comes from the Asia Pacific region.
The new facility is expected to begin operations in the second half of 2028. This marks the second round of expansion at the Singapore hub, which currently supports about 2,000 aircraft annually and employs 300 people locally.
