Four individuals have been charged with impaired driving following a series of incidents over the weekend that involved unconscious drivers, collisions, and a police pursuit, according to the Windsor Police Service.
First Incident: Unconscious Driver
On June 5, shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Ouellette Avenue and Giles Boulevard after receiving reports of a man found unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle. When attempts to wake the driver were unsuccessful, an officer broke a window and physically roused the man to ensure his safety. The driver appeared disoriented and exhibited signs of impairment, including dilated pupils and slurred speech. A 42-year-old man has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle.
Second Incident: E-Bike Collision
On June 7 at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a collision in the 400 block of Ouellette Avenue involving an e-bike and a parked vehicle. A man on the e-bike had collided with the parked car, and officers observed signs of impairment during their interaction. A 56-year-old man was arrested and transported to police headquarters downtown, where he failed a breath test. He has been charged with impaired operation and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg.
Third Incident: Swerving Vehicle
Later that day, shortly after 6 p.m., officers in Amherstburg observed a vehicle swerve into oncoming traffic in the 400 block of Simcoe Street. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver showed signs of impairment. A 63-year-old man was arrested without incident and later failed a breath test. He has been charged with impaired operation and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg.
Fourth Incident: Police Pursuit
About five hours later, police located a vehicle parked in an alleyway behind a business in the 1800 block of Tecumseh Road East. The driver initially fled when officers attempted a traffic stop. A short time later, officers located and arrested the suspect in the 1400 block of Lens Avenue. A 61-year-old man was arrested and charged with impaired operation, operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg, and flight from a peace officer.
